How many blog posts have you written down on your blog? 10? 20? 50 maybe? It’s good if you got more.
But are you getting enough visitors to read those blog posts?
Well, you have got your blog, everything is in place on there. You have got good articles as well. But no traffic. And it’s a serious problem.
New bloggers face this problem a lot. I have faced it too in my early days.
I kept on trying all kinds of different strategies and experimented a lot. I read a whole lot of blog posts on how to get more and more traffic.
Let me share my top 5 traffic strategies for new bloggers
I Promoted Myself
It seemed a little bit awkward when I started promoting myself. It seemed like I was acting to be a professional blogger, when I was not. With only a handful blog posts, I was promoting myself.
It didn’t help initially, but kept doing it. And gradually and slowly started building a network with like-minded people.
Being a newbie blogger, this would be a challenge for you. But you have to do it.
Now, you will think, how in this world will somebody come to your blog where you only have 3-5 blog posts initially and gain traffic!
Same thoughts here.
Are you afraid of promoting yourself on social media, and other mediums? Afraid of criticism and rejection?
If you are not able to promote and talk about yourself, how on earth are you going to let people know about you and what you do?
Don’t think that by promoting yourself you will gain a lot of traffic, but this will make a huge impact in the long run.
You can join various social media websites, forums in the same niche you are. Join the Facebook Groups, where you can help people with their problems. This is also a kind of self-promotion.
There are more endless ways of promoting yourself. You will have to come up with something unique which can work for you.
Don’t be afraid of someone what they might think of you. Keep promoting yourself. Talk about yourself on social media, of what you love, what you do and how you do. Get acquainted with other bloggers.
You are your own brand, and that’s how people will recognize you.
After all, it’s giving me traffic.
So, this was one of the traffic strategies for new bloggers.
I Created Quality Content
I remember, in a different niche, which I started my blogging career with, I downloaded a whole lot of PLR content and started posting them on my blog.
Guess what! Nobody liked it.
Everybody knew I was copying and pasting some content from one source to another. Especially Google, where it was responsible to bring up my blog posts in the search results. One of my biggest blogging mistake.
Zach Bulygo, a blogger for KISSmetrics points out about quality content as,
…if you write original content, search engines will help your site get more exposure. For instance, Google has made it plain that they do not like and will penalize sites with duplicate content. Put another way, Google wants to reward high quality sites that contain original content. So not only does great content make a better website, it also improves your site’s rankings, which can have a very positive impact on your business.
Please don’t do that. I wasted one year on this thing.
I was just afraid of writing content.
I never thought in those days that I could even write such long articles of about 2000-4000 words!
“How to start writing an article? Where to start? What do I write? Where to get the keywords? One paragraph done, now what’s next?”
These lines in my mind kept bubbling.
When nothing worked, I realized then. I remember I wrote my first blog post which took me about 10 days. Yes 10 days!
I kept searching on the Google, on other blogs, wrote down some key points, and finally I had one blog post. My own blog post. I was so happy. Because I never thought I could do that.
Slowly, things changed, got some experience and now I am all OK. Even though, I still learn by reading other blog posts.
So, until unless you come up with something unique, and with a high-quality blog posts, it isn’t going to work. I am sorry I am talking straight, but it isn’t.
Since if you have started a blog, and you are going to provide some information to your readers, it is important to know that content is king. As long as you provide a high-quality content on your blog, you will start receiving traffic.
I Wrote For Humans And Search Engines
There’s no doubt that when you are writing quality content, it is for humans. But how would humans know what you have written about.
Humans use search engines, and search engines check your blog posts according to SEO and keywords implementation.
I should have named this as:
I Used SEO And Keywords In My Blog Posts
If you are writing without any SEO technique and keywords usage, the probability of that blog posts being shown on the internet is less than 10%.
Search engines have become smarter. They are not that old fashioned. They know what to show to a visitor searching. They manipulate billions of pages. That’s why they want your blog to be search engine optimized with relevant keywords.
When you provide a keyword density of 3-8% in your blog posts, and it is a high-quality blog posts giving a solution or providing an information, then it is a good target to bring in traffic from search engines.
Write for humans and search engines as well. Slowly, you will start receiving a good traffic of people searching with the keywords you have provided in your blog posts.
I Expanded Myself On Social Media Websites
Before I started, I was active on couple of social media websites like Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. That too on a personal note.
I talked about promoting yourself on social media websites earlier. And this is possible only when you expand your horizon of social networking.
You can join different kinds of social media websites and create your profile with a link back to your blog.
If you have started blogging, then most probably you are already on the Facebook. There you can create a Facebook Page for your blog and invite your friends to like it.
You can change the bio information on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ and others to match up with your blog content, about who you are and what you intend to do.
Create a good network of people when you join the Facebook Groups. Ask questions, give answers in the Facebook Groups, so people can link up to you.
It’s all give and take relationship.
Spend quality time in these Facebook Groups. People will start coming on your blog.
There are more social media websites which you can join, but I think these major ones would be sufficient to bring in traffic on your blog. Especially when you are starting new.
Don’t burden yourself. Go slow and keep updating posts on these social media websites to gain traffic.
I Created Documents & Presentations
I never knew this could be done. But it was easy.
I mean, being a newbie, this would be easy for you.
Just convert your blog posts into PDF, PPT, or DOC format and upload them to document sharing websites. You are done.
These documents sharing websites have thousands of visitors, reading all kinds of articles, people watching presentations online, reading eBooks, which can be a good source of traffic to your blog.
We all know, sharing is caring.
So, share your blog posts converted into a document or a presentation on these websites and get a bit of traffic.
When you submit your document or presentation, make sure to add your name, blog URL and social media links where they can reach to read more about your blog.
Check other documents and presentations, how they have been created. The kind of pictures they have used, the font size, color combinations, check those things first. Then create your own.
This is also a part of SEO. Because it creates a backlink to your blog, increasing the popularity in the eyes of the search engines.
And, Now, Here I Am
